Virtual Tour of the New Tasting Room

May 7, 2012–Our newly renovated tasting room has been open for a month now, and is getting rave reviews.  Here is a virtual tour of the improved space for those of you who won’t be able to visit in the near future.

1.) Fresh coat of paint.  We painted the ceiling white (it used to be a dark shade of blue-green) which brightens the room considerably.  The walls are two different shades of green called Painted Turtle and Silver Leaf.  The fresh paint makes everything seem clean and fresh.

2.) Bigger tasting bar.  The old one could only accommodate 6-8 people.  The new one is u-shaped to accommodate 16-20.  The counter is made from reclaimed bowling alleys.  The underside of the new bar was built out of the wood from the old bar.  Thanks to Tom of Fish Woodworks for doing an excellent job on the project!

3.) Silver Thread Falls artwork.  This lithograph of the Lodi landmark Silver Thread Falls was originally published in the Historical Record of Seneca County.  Thanks to Stomping Grounds in Geneva, it has new life as a bigger and more colorful artwork to decorate our tasting room.  The falls (rumored to be one of the most beautiful in the Finger Lakes) is on private property, but you can almost imagine yourself there in this lithograph!

4.) Finger Lakes map.  Dan Mitchell (who specializes in putting old barrels to new use) crafted this piece of artwork from old wine barrel hoops.  Each lake is to scale, and he projected a map onto the wall in order to place each one in exactly the right spot.  Do you know the names of all 11?

5.) Lights!  Silver Thread was built to capture natural sunlight, which works very well on sunny days.  But given the number of cloudy days we get in Upstate New York, we had to have brighter lights.  Our electrician suggested the track lighting, and we were able to use an old set he had leftover from his work at the Geneva Fire House several years ago.  We love creative re-use!

6.) Computerized Point of Sale… one item that is probably better to get NEW instead of used.  I got pretty tired of using the old Silver Thread system of notebook & calculator last fall.  This new system allows us to track customer purchases and have a loyalty program.  So on your next visit to Silver Thread, you can sign up for the case club!
