Silver Thread wins the Slow Wine Snail of Approval

Silver Thread Vineyard Awarded Slow Wine Snail of Approval

Thursday, February 8th, 2024 –

Lodi,  NY–Silver Thread Vineyard is honored to receive the Slow Wine Snail of Approval, it’s highest award, in the 2024 Slow Wine USA Guide. The award is given to producers who epitomize the Italian wine organization’s values by making wine that is both “good and fair.” 450 wineries from California, Washington, Oregon and New York are reviewed in the guide, but Silver Thread is one of just a few from the Finger Lakes region. The Snail of Approval award is based on evaluations of six areas: sourcing, environmental impact, cultural connection, community involvement, staff support, and business values. The award was given at a ceremony in Napa Valley on December 3, 2023.

“I’ve been a fan of the Slow Food & Wine movement for many years and Silver Thread is excited to be part of the organization’s expansion into the US,” said Silver Thread co-owner and manager, Shannon Brock. “We appreciate being singled out for their top award, the Snail of Approval, and hope it helps direct more people to the important sustainability efforts happening in the Finger Lakes wine industry.”

The Slow Wine Guide USA began including New York wineries in 2021. Silver Thread has been featured in each edition since that year, and has also earned the “Top Wine” prize for Riesling Estate Vineyard in each of the past four years. In addition, Silver Thread has earned Slow Wine’s “Coin Prize” for producing wines that are good value for money.

About Slow Wine: Founded in Italy, Slow Wine is an offshoot of the Slow Food movement. The mission of the non-profit organization is to promote “good and fair” wines, focusing on the importance of combating climate change. The Slow Wine Guide USA only reviews wines that are grown without synthetic herbicides, including Roundup, which has been banned in other countries as a carcinogen. The Slow Wine team prides itself on the human contact it has with all producers, which is essential to the guide’s evaluations. While other guides limit their relationship to a blind tasting and scores, Slow Wine takes the time to get personal with each winery in order to create a well-informed, detailed review of the wines themselves and the people behind the production. Slow Wine selects wineries that respect and reflect their local terroir and practice sustainable methods that benefit the environment.

About Silver Thread: Located on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake in Lodi, NY, Silver Thread Vineyard is owned and operated by Paul and Shannon Brock. They farm ten acres of vineyard using regenerative and biointensive practices, and 100% of the winery’s energy is produced on-site with solar power. Silver Thread produces small-batch wines using minimal intervention, and has received numerous accolades for outstanding quality Riesling, sparkling wine and reds. In 2023, Silver Thread received the New York wine industry’s Sustainability Award and helped to launch the New York Sustainable Winegrowing program.
