One Day in Wine Country, Part 4: Family Fun

Are you planning a multi-generational trip to the beautiful Finger Lakes region? Specifically the South East Seneca area? Have we got the itinerary for you!

White goat in barnWho’s Got Your Goat?

Get your farmyard fix by starting at Lively Run Goat Dairy, a family-owned farm and creamery in Interlaken. They produce award-winning cheeses from their partner farm’s goats, cows, and sheep. You can savor a goat cheese tasting, or spend time in the barn feeding the little rascals. Here at Silver Thread, we’re big fans of their Lively Run FLX Gold, an aged goat cheese. This earthy wedge is one of our favorite cheeses to pair with Riesling!

Next up: Lodi Point State Park. This beautiful spot includes picnic tables, a big playground, and gently crashing waves. Search the shore for sea glass or wade on in to Seneca Lake when the sun is at its’ brightest. As one of the (dare we say it) lesser known spots, it’s a favorite of locals and those who prefer a quieter state park experience.

Lunch Time

Building exterior with patio tentWhen you’re ready to replenish, we’ll be waiting for you at the Winegarden! Our Austrian-inspired menu includes savory spreads, cold salads, locally-made sausage, and more. Including – of course – wine! Choose from a prix fixe flight or order a glass of your favorite. The covered patio offers a relaxing experience with a view like no other.

If your trip includes more than six people, reservations are required and can be requested through this convenient form. We’re happy to work with you on the wine and food pairing option that best suits your family!

Your Place on a Horse

Rider in blue on a roan horse. We cannot say enough about Painted Bar Stables. This bustling, community-focused barn has a horse for everyone, no matter their experience. They lead winding trails through part of the Finger Lakes National Forest. You could stroll through the woods, a field, or even a stream while on your noble steed. If you have little ones who aren’t ready for a full trail ride, you can book a “Horse Encounter” or even a private lesson.

And is there a better end to your busy day on south east Seneca than pizza with a view at Scale House? A craft brewery with live music most nights of the week, they also have a large yard that’s perfect for running around. Scale House is our go-to after a long day of hand-picking grapes in the fall. Fun fact: despite their gourmet pizza menu, folks online rave about their meatballs!

Traveling with multi generations can require some planning. We hope these suggestions inspire you to spend time on the east side of our favorite Finger Lakes.
