Big TV Boost for FLX Locavores

July 11, 2014–  Yesterday, Silver Thread had the pleasure of hosting Ithaca-based chef and food blogger Emma Frisch, a finalist on this year’s edition of Food Network Star.  For those of you (like me) that don’t get cable, Food Network Star is a reality show in which the winner gets their own show on Food Network.

038_expirience_FBEmma is a big proponent of the eat-local movement, as evidenced by the recipes on her web site, articles she’s written for edible Finger Lakes, and cooking classes she teaches for local CSAs.  Emma came to a few wineries on Seneca Lake as a guest of our favorite local tour company, Experience! The Finger Lakes.  She was keen to learn about the different varieties of wine we make in the Finger Lakes and how they could pair well with her locavore cuisine.

After a tour of the vineyard, where Emma checked out this year’s Gewurztraminer crop, she sampled our estate-grown wines on the deck overlooking Seneca Lake.  She especially liked the minerality of the STV Estate Vineyard Riesling and the pairing of Blackbird with Muranda Red Buddy cheese.

She was traveling with a news team from WENY TV (Elmira, NY) and they filmed a segment for their morning show during the tasting.  At Silver Thread, our entire team lives the “eat/drink local” lifestyle and try our best to promote it to our visitors.  It’s always great when someone like Emma Frisch, who has a huge cable TV megaphone, can help us promote the cause.

Best wishes to Emma for continued success on Food Network Star–when we met, she was one of 6 remaining contestants out of the original 12.  Win or lose, the Finger Lakes is better off for her participation in the show.
