Armchair Winemaker

October 20, 2016– Harvest is in full swing here at Silver Thread, with grapes being picked and processed almost daily.  We began our harvest on September 16 and it’s been full steam ahead for five weeks now.  We began by picking Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer and Chardonnay.  Lately, we have moved into Riesling, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.  Warm and sunny weather have made this year’s harvest a breeze, with little to no disease pressure and long windows in which to let fruit ripen.  We will continue to harvest grapes for about two weeks.

The best way to follow the action is via social media.  Winemaker Paul Brock posts regularly on Instagram as SilverThreadWinemaker.  Manager Shannon Brock updates Facebook at Silver Thread Vineyard.  Both are adding gorgeous photos and videos of fruit as it is harvested and wine as it gets made, as well as harvest vistas of the Finger Lakes that will make you feel like you’re right here with us!  We hope you will come along on the journey of Harvest 2016.  Cheers!
