Lodi, NY Recovers Quickly from Flash Flooding
Southern Finger Lakes Area Received 5+ inches of Rain in a Few Hours
August 16, 2018– Lodi, NY made the national news on Tuesday after more than 5 inches of rain fell in only a few hours, resulting in flash floods. Lodi Point, Sheldrake Point, Caywood, Valois and Peach Orchard Point were especially hard hit. Extreme volumes of water overwhelmed ravines, cut deep paths through roads and driveways, and deposited debris everywhere. A state of emergency was declared and road crews have been quickly repairing and re-opening roads. Here is a link to a local news story detailing the flood:
Several vineyards and wineries were affected, including Silver Thread. Damage was mostly confined to the driveway leading down the hill to Silver Thread. Grape harvest is still several weeks away so most berries are green and firm, and were not damaged by the rain. Silver Thread was able to re-open on Wednesday, August 15, after travel bans were lifted from area roads and repairs were made to our driveway. Here is a link to a local news story about the effect of the flooding on wineries:
