A Goal Achieved

New Riesling “Good Earth Vineyard,” five years in the making, epitomizes a winemaker’s art.

Winemaker Paul Brock shares the story of our newest wine.

Q: What is the story behind Good Earth Riesling?

Winemaker with hand tote of Riesling grapes.

Paul looks pleased with this Riesling!

It is from a vineyard planted on land that we reclaimed in 2021 and planted in 2023. That vineyard has always been farmed 100% organically, compared to the rest of our Riesling where we typically use one or two non-organic sprays each year. 2025 was our first harvest. Young vines typically give lots of fruit flavor, so we decided to make a medium dry style to accentuate the fruitiness. The label is a painting of the view from our vineyard by a local artist. An art label is appropriate because this wine is one of the truest expressions of my art as a winemaker because I developed it from field to glass.

Q: How did you feel on that day last October when these grapes were harvested?

I was very proud that we had accomplished growing organic Riesling in the Finger Lakes. Clearing that land and planting that vineyard was the hardest thing I’ve ever done from a physical labor standpoint. Ask me about all the rocks some time. It was a 5-year process from when we started clearing the Good Earth block to harvesting those Riesling grapes and loading them into the press last October.
