Plan Your Visit
Silver Thread’s Tasting Room is located off the beaten path, a welcome respite from the well-traveled Seneca Lake wine route. It provides breathtaking views and an opportunity to contemplate wine in a quiet, natural setting. Our knowledgeable, professional staff and expressive wines ensure a memorable experience. Due to the small size of the tasting room, groups of 8 or more may taste by pre-arranged appointment only. Our narrow gravel driveway and small parking lot do not allow for large vehicles such as stretch limousines, buses and RVs. We thank you in advance for respecting this.
From NYS Route 414, winery signs will lead you to Caywood Road. About 1/4 mile down, the paved road turns to a privately-maintained gravel road. Enjoy the expansive views of the lake and the Doyle Family’s massive Chardonnay vineyard as you approach Silver Thread. Follow the signs along the gravel road about 3/4 of a mile. Our vineyard begins just after you cross a rustic cattle bridge over a ravine (don’t worry–the bridge is supported by two very strong concrete pilings and several steel I-beams). The road is narrow, but there is ample room to pull off to the side if you should encounter an oncoming vehicle. Please respect our neighbors by obeying the 5mph posted speed limit.
Tasting Room Experience
Silver Thread offers several wine tasting options. A standard tasting of 5 wines, chosen by the visitor and served in fine crystal stemware, is available for $5. The $10 Riesling Experience Tasting is a flight-style sampling of our limited-production single-vineyard Rieslings and includes a local cheese pairing. A $10 Wine & Chocolate Tasting, also served flight-style, allows guests to pair four of our wines with four custom-made artisan chocolates. Read more here about our collaboration with Hedonist Artisan Chocolates of Rochester, NY. Wine-by-the-glass is available for $7 (any variety) and is best enjoyed outside on our deck or patio. Local cheese, chocolate and artisanal foods are featured on a sampling plate to pair with the standard tasting or wine-by-the-glass for $3. Once they arrive, most visitors choose to linger at our picturesque tasting room, enjoying a wine & food pairing experience, extended conversation with staff, or a picnic lunch. If you bring your own lunch you are welcome to use the picnic tables near our pond, or the lake-view patio and deck. Please check our web site (right sidebar) or call (607-582-6116) for current tasting room hours. We look forward to welcoming you!
