August 6, 2015–Greg’s interest in wine began while studying at Hobart and William Smith College in Geneva. After working for six years as an Environmental Analyst in Boston, Greg decided it was time to come back to the Finger Lakes to start a career in the wine industry. Greg worked 2014’s harvest on Cayuga Lake, before beginning his studies towards a Master’s degree in Enology at Cornell University. His studies have brought him to Silver Thread Vineyard, working as the vineyard intern. When not at the vineyard, Greg can be found hiking in the gorges around Ithaca with his wife and dog and enjoying the culture that the Finger Lakes has to offer.

At Silver Thread Vineyard Greg has worked with Duane and Paul in the vineyard, while also having the opportunity to meet our customers as he provides support in the tasting room. The vineyard has been busy this summer with almost an acre of new plantings: Riesling replacing the Chardonnay vines removed earlier this spring, and a new planting of Cabernet Franc in the lower vineyard. Greg has had the opportunity to continue his studies in the vineyard, learning hands on about vine establishment and maintenance, along with vineyard design. While working with Duane he has learned about the importance of pest monitoring and management, along with the integral role that vine canopy management plays to support a quality crop for harvest.  We’re happy to have Greg on our team this year, making valuable contributions toward what we know will be outstanding 2015 wines!
